Julie A. StephensWith an impressive resume replete with credentials and experience, Julie attracted the attention of Mort and Scott. Since that introduction in 1998, Julie has continued to earn the respect and esteem of her colleagues and her clients. Julie was born in Hammond, Indiana, and grew up in Highland. After matriculating from Highland High School in 1988, Julie attended Ball State University. In 1992, she graduated cum laude with a B.S. degree in Psychological Science. After college, she married her high school sweetheart, Jack, and earned a Master's degree in Psychology from Valparaiso University. Before attending law school, Julie worked as a Victim Advocate and as the Director of the Sexual Assault Recovery Unit for the Porter County Prosecutor's Office. Julie worked with attorneys in the prosecutor's office and admired as her husband, Jack, launched his career to become a well-known and accomplished attorney. Not to be left behind, Julie decided that she would join them and enroll at John Marshall Law School. While at John Marshall in Chicago, Julie first demonstrated the ability to balance family and career that she continues to manage to this day with skill and aplomb. Julie was rarely alone in law school; five of the six semesters she was pregnant with either her daughter or son. Mere hours before she gave birth to her children, Julie continued her daily trek from Northwest Indiana to Chicago on the South Shore Line. After she graduated in 1998 from law school, she became an associate with Efron, Efron & Yahne, P.C. and on January 1, 2004, Julie became a partner with the firm. During Julie's first four years as an associate, she served the School City of Hammond as a legal liaison for Scott Middle School's conflict mediators and has spoken at Munster High School during Indiana's Law Day. Julie is licensed to practice in the State of Indiana, the Northern and Southern District of Indiana and the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals. Julie has also been active in the Women's Lawyer Association of Lake County by serving as their Corresponding Secretary for a year. Julie has spent her off hours helping her daughter, Kaileigh, with Girl Scout activities (serving as Troop 242's "Cookie Manager" for two consecutive years ) and currently attends soccer practice and games year round. She is also busy finding her son's (Tyler) passion: basketball, karate and soccer, all of which pale in comparison to his first love, perfecting his comedy routine and impressions. Finding the profession of law has been fulfilling for Julie by providing her with challenges during the day and the flexibility to enjoy her family.
